About Baby English
We have been teaching English to children since 2004. We offer in-person courses in Ostrava and Bohumín as well as online lessons. We also have experience teaching English directly in nursery and primary schools.
Our courses build on one another. Children can start with their first introduction to English and gradually progress to conversation, reading, writing and grammar.
How Baby English Began
Baby English was founded by Hana Petrušková in 2004. She has a teaching qualification and spent four years studying and working in London. Her first inspiration was her son, who was one year old at the time. She wanted him to experience English naturally and enjoy learning it.
Our approach to teaching young children was also influenced by our cooperation with Steve Hildebrand, who ran the AAADA English school in Prague. We still use his programme of songs and movement in our lessons today. In the past, we also organised teaching weekends together in Ostrava. Steve later returned to the United States.
How We Teach
We want children to enjoy English. We do not put them under pressure to learn. We encourage their curiosity and willingness to listen, repeat and gradually begin speaking independently.
We adapt our teaching to the children’s age and previous experience. With the youngest children, we mainly use songs, rhymes, movement, games and stories. As they grow older, we introduce reading, writing, conversation and grammar.

Our Aims
- To help children develop a love of English and teach them to listen carefully and repeat English words and sentences correctly.
- To show parents who speak English how they can continue practising correctly with their child at home.
- To make English reading easier by teaching children the sounds and rules used when reading English words.
- To help children communicate in English with confidence and without unnecessary fear of making mistakes.
Why Is a Parent’s Presence Important for Beginners?
Young children love copying their parents. When a parent sings, repeats English words and sentences or joins in movement games during the lesson, the child is usually much more willing to take part.
Parents can also see what we are learning during the lessons. They become familiar with the songs, words, sentences and movements we use. When their child tries to say something in English at home, they can understand and encourage them. Parents who speak English can also practise the material correctly with their child.
We do not expect parents who do not speak English to teach their child at home. In this case, we recommend using recordings and other materials that provide a correct model of English.
René Also Teaches Online
Individual online lessons are also taught by René Kluz, a graduate of PORG Grammar School in Ostrava and a student at the Czech Technical University in Prague since September 2022.
René has five years of experience teaching primary and secondary school students individually.
