Fun English lessons for children aged 2 to 15

For more than 20 years, we have been helping children gain confidence in English. Our lessons are engaging, practical and built around active participation. We’ll get your child speaking English too.

Our courses build on one another, from a child’s first introduction to English through to conversation, reading, writing and grammar.

ENROLMENT FOR THE 2026/2027 SCHOOL YEAR IS NOW OPEN

Lessons start in the week beginning 7 September 2026.

We offer:

  • face-to-face English courses for children aged 2½ to 11 in Ostrava city centre, Ostrava-Zábřeh and Bohumín;
  • a toddler group for children born in 2024 in Ostrava city centre;
  • online lessons for pupils in Grades 3–9, either individually or in small groups.

NEW: Cambridge English A1/A2 preparation for children aged 9–11

Preparation for the Cambridge English A1 Movers and A2 Flyers exams. Children will develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and will also use the interactive Raz-Kids library.

Beginners come to lessons with a parent or another accompanying adult.

You can find all current groups and lesson times in our timetable. We will recommend a suitable group and confirm availability according to your child’s age and level of English, your preferred times and the number of children enrolled.

How we teach

We adapt our teaching to each child’s age and previous experience with English. Lessons combine songs, rhymes, movement, games, stories and other activities that help children understand English and gradually begin to use it themselves.

With our youngest learners, we also use Steve Hildebrand’s programme of songs and movement.

When children start primary school, they learn to read and write in English using the British Jolly Phonics method. With older children, we focus more on conversation, reading, writing, listening and grammar. Children attending both our face-to-face and online courses can also use the interactive Raz-Kids library.

Meet the teachers

Baby English was founded by Hana Petrušková, who teaches most of our courses. Hana has been teaching English to children since 2004. She has a background in education and spent four years studying and working in London.

Individual online lessons are also taught by René Kluz, a graduate of PORG Grammar School in Ostrava and a student at the Czech Technical University in Prague since September 2022. René has five years’ experience providing individual tuition to primary and secondary school pupils.

Alongside our Baby English courses, we also provide English lessons directly in nursery and primary schools. Over the years, Hana has taught at a number of schools in Ostrava, Bohumín and the surrounding area.

Corrency funding

Eligible families may use a Corrency contribution of up to CZK 1,500 towards Baby English courses. The programme is available to families living in the municipal districts of Ostrava-Jih, Slezská Ostrava and Moravská Ostrava a Přívoz. The amount and conditions vary between districts.

ENGLISH for children in Ostrava and Bohumín
 
Baby English are follow-up English courses where children from the age of 2 acquire the basics of English in a natural and fun way with the help of songs, nursery rhymes, fairy tales and simple games for their further language education, which takes place in the follow-up courses up to the age of 15. We have been educating children in and around Ostrava since 2004.
 
In the 2023/2024 school year, we offer the following proven teaching methods from September 7, 2023:
 
full-time in Ostrava and Bohumín for children from 2 to 12 years old
online - from the comfort of home for children from 9 to 15 years old (group and individual lessons)

Raz-Kids – English Books for Listening and Reading

Would you like your child to use English regularly at home too? Raz-Kids offers more than 800 English e-books that children can listen to, read and then complete a short comprehension quiz.

The programme is available both to current Baby English students and to children who do not attend our courses.

How Raz-Kids Works

We set a suitable level for each child according to their actual knowledge of English. The programme offers 29 levels, ranging from simple books with a few short sentences to longer and more challenging texts.

Children first listen to each book, then read it independently and finally answer questions to check their understanding. This gradually develops their vocabulary, listening and reading skills, and their ability to work with English texts.

Children may also record themselves reading and submit the recording for feedback. Recordings are voluntary and are not required to use the programme.

Who Is Raz-Kids Suitable For?

We recommend Raz-Kids for children from Year 1 to Year 9. The level is chosen according to the child’s knowledge of English, not simply their age or school year.

With help from a parent, pre-school children can also listen to the easier books. Older students can work with longer and more demanding texts that children learning English usually reach only after several years of study.

Children do not need to attend a Baby English course to join the programme.

What Is Included in the Price?

The price includes:

  • access to the programme for one year from activation;
  • selection of a suitable starting level;
  • ongoing monitoring of the child’s activity and results;
  • the option to submit recordings of their reading;
  • feedback on pronunciation, fluency and reading accuracy;
  • three individual pronunciation reviews during the annual access period.

Price for One Year

  • CZK 790 for children attending Baby English
  • CZK 990 for other children

The discounted price applies to children who are attending an in-person or online Baby English course when their account is activated, including Baby English lessons provided in a nursery or primary school.

What Does Your Child Need?

Raz-Kids can be used on a computer or through the Kids A-Z app on a tablet or smartphone.

Your child will need an internet connection and headphones. A microphone is only required if they wish to record themselves reading.
